The Xperia 10 Plus follows the 21:9 designed chosen by SONY for its 2019 smartphones: the tall screen is designed to take advantage of the cinematographic and musical content that the Japanese company has experience with.
As for Xperia 10 Plus, the display is nearly borderless on 3 sides (right, bottom, left): only the upper side houses a 1 cm “traditional” band that accommodates all the front sensors. At the beginning we notice this traditional area at the top, but soon I realized that it was the most clean solution, instead of having also a lower edge slightly thicker.
Overall, the screen is really pleasant to see under Sailfish OS against the Android stock version.
Xperia 10 Plus is a big phone: 167 x 73 mm, but it fit in the hand so good thanks to the reduced width, which helps the handle. Thickness is 8,3 mm.
The colors available for Xperia 10 Plus are Black, Blue Navy, Silver and Gold. They all have a matte surface, with a slight touch of metal that can be seen under direct light, more with the color Black.
The pick staff is the Navy blue version, for a rather ‘classy’ smartphone to combine with autumn colours, jeans and beige.
The buttons are all positioned on the right side only, and compared to Xperia XA2 they are in an inverted position: from above we have the power button, the fingerprint sensor space, and the volume up and volume down buttons. They are also made almost flush and in small dimensions. (This explains the reason for the numerous negative notes in the online reviews, regarding the buttons).
After a while you get used to it, but it is curious to note that Sony, for Xperia 1 and 5, has chosen or better returned to the usual layout.
On the left side there is the tray for the Sim and the SD cards, while in the upper side there is an audio jack. On the lower side there is a USB-C connector and two grids for audio. (Note that the audio comes from the right grid, the left one is dedicated to the main microphone).
The camera protrudes 1 mm and more.
The Xperia 10 Plus is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SDM636 CPU processor (14nm). The GPU is the Qualcomm Adreno 509, a slight upgrade on Xperia 10 models.
RAM memory: there are usually 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The I4193 version for Chinese market has 6GB of RAM.
Expansion is provided by the usual microSD slot, potentially up to 1TB
(To be verified that there isn’t some limitation under Sailfish OS).
The battery is non-removable, 3000 mAh. Compatible with fast charging.
To note that the battery is still smaller than all XA2 models (3300 mAh-3580 mAh).
The main camera is a 12 MP, 27mm, with 4000×3000 on photos, and
1920x1080p / 30fps on video recording.
There is a second 8MP telephoto camera, to be supported under Sailfish OS
The front camera is a 8MP, 3264x2448p, 24mm but with fixed focus. It allows a good 1080p / 30fps video recording.
The Xperia 10 Plus has a 6,5″ display, 21:9 format. Resolution is 1080x2520p and the point-per-inch is 422 PPI, slightly less than Xperia 10.
