The Xperia 10 is part of the new 21: 9 experience designed by SONY for its 2019 smartphones: the long screen is designed to take advantage of the cinematographic and musical content that the Japanese company has experience with.
The shape of the display characterizes all the design of this mobile: on three sides (bottom, left, right) the display is practically borderless, really pleasant to see in Sailfish OS; only the upper side houses a 1 cm “traditional” band that accommodates all the front sensors. At the beginning we notice this traditional area at the top, but soon we realize that it was the most clean solution, instead of having also a lower edge slightly thicker (and therefore 3 thicknesses of edge, as seen in the Xperia 1).
The ergonomics are good thanks to the reduced width of the phone that helps the handle. Furthermore, both thickness and weight (162 g) are reduced compared to Xperia XA2.
The colors available for Xperia 10 are Black, Blue Navy, Silver and Rose. They all have a matte surface, with a slight touch of metal that can be seen under direct light, more with the color Black.
The pick staff is the Navy blue version, for a rather ‘classy’ smartphone to combine with autumn colours, jeans and beige.
The buttons are all positioned on the right side only, and compared to Xperia XA2 they are in an inverted position: from above we have the power button, the fingerprint sensor space, and the volume up and volume down buttons. They are also made almost flush and in small dimensions. (This explains the reason for the numerous negative notes in the online reviews, regarding the buttons).
After a while you get used to it, but it is curious to note that Sony, for Xperia 1 and 5, has chosen or better returned to the usual layout.
On the left side there is the tray for the Sim and the SD cards, while in the upper side there is an audio jack. On the lower side there is a USB-C connector and two grids for audio. (Note that the audio comes from the right grid, the left one is dedicated to the main microphone).
The camera protrudes, but slightly (1 mm) and you will be able to type with the cell phone on a table without producing sways and “tloc tloc” sounds.
The Xperia 10 is powered by an octa-core 2.2GHz Cortex-A53 CPU processor (the Snapdragon 630, like the XA2). The GPU is an Adreno 508 GPU, enough to handle the workload, even with a bigger screen.
RAM memory: there are usually 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The I4193 version for Chinese market has 4GB.
Expansion is provided by the usual microSD slot, potentially up to 1TB
(To be verified that there isn’t some limitation under Sailfish OS).
The battery is non-removable, 2870 mAh. Compatible with fast charging.
To note that the battery it’s smaller than all XA2 models (3300 mAh-3580 mAh).
On original Sony-Android state, there was a new software optimisation that allowed to reach the same real-life autonomy, probably that extra optimisation was removed after flashing. (To be verified soon autonomy with a test)
The main camera is a 13 MP f/2.0 apertures, with 1920x1080p / 30fps on video recording. On shooting at the moment there is a support up to 4208x3120p, (Advanced Camera app).
This camera improves on low light condition, like if Sailfish OS is finally using the Sony software.
The front camera is 8MP, 3264x2448p but with fixed focus. It allows a good 1080p / 30fps video recording.
The Xperia 10’s display is a 6″, 21:9 format. Resolution is 1080x2520p and the point-per-inch has risen to 457 PPI (it was 402 PPI on XA2 Plus). The screen has a natural, less saturated colours than previous Xperia, something like it was for Jolla C.
